Softball Recap: Collinsville Comes Up Short

Collinsville extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 4-9 in the process. They lost 14-3 to the Granite City Warriors. If the Kahoks were looking for revenge after losing 8-2 to the Warriors when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Bailey Demick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

As for Granite City, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-9. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

On Granite City's side, Christine Myers made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Myers has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alexis Ruiz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Carnahan, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Collinsville will host Greenville at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Kahoks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Comets have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Granite City, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Dupo at 4:30 p.m. on May 5.
