Basketball Recap: Simmons' Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Simmons put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their game with ease, bagging a 69-20 victory over the Leflore County Tigers. That 49 point margin sets a new team best for the Blue Devils this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Simmons to victory, but perhaps none more so than Moesha Hoskins, who went 7 for 10 on her way to 19 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Those six steals gave Hoskins a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Riya Alexander, who posted 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

Despite the defeat, Leflore County had strong showings from Malia Dixon, who had seven points, and Olivia Hilton, who posted six points and three steals. Hilton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played.

Simmons pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.6 points per game. As for Leflore County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Simmons will welcome Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Leflore County, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Leflore County Tigers challenge the Amanda Elzy Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
