Basketball Game Preview: Midd-West Mustangs vs. Selinsgrove Seals

Midd-West hasn't had much luck against Selinsgrove recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Midd-West Mustangs will challenge the Selinsgrove Seals at 7:30 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Midd-West is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Shikellamy on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Midd-West took a blow against Shikellamy, falling 67-40.

Midd-West's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of D'Zani Coley, who posted 15 points and six rebounds, and Brandon Ferster, who had eight points and eight rebounds. Coley's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Even though they lost, Midd-West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Selinsgrove was just a bucket shy of victory last Saturday and fell 46-45 to Loyalsock Township.

Midd-West will have to keep a close watch on Xaivier Jackson and Gavin Bastian, a pair of players who had a big impact on Selinsgrove's prior game. Jackson put up 17 points, while Bastian posted 13 points.

Selinsgrove dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 7.75 points. As for Midd-West, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Midd-West was dealt a bruising 61-32 loss at the hands of Selinsgrove when the teams last played back in January of 2018. Can Midd-West avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
