Basketball Recap: Carter Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Muskingum over John Glenn

After flying high against Morgan last Tuesday, West Muskingum came back down to earth. The West Muskingum Tornadoes lost 80-57 to the John Glenn Little Muskies on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tornadoes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Little Muskies are ranked 72nd).

Several Tornadoes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carter Smith, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Porter, who posted 12 points along with five assists and five boards.

It was another big night for Cj Dolan, who went 5-for-8 to rack up 16 points in addition to six assists and five steals for John Glenn. Dolan is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Briggs, who had 13 points.

West Muskingum's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for John Glenn, their win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. West Muskingum will head out on the road to square off against East Liverpool at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in West Muskingum's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matches. As for John Glenn, they will take on Minerva in a tournament on Tuesday.
