Baseball Recap: Maize Takes a Loss

If Maize was riding high fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Valley Center on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Maize fell just short of Valley Center by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 9-1.

Gavin Short was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Maize saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brodie Jarvis, who went 2-for-3 with one double. Parker Meirowsky also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Maize's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Valley Center, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maize will welcome Andover Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Center, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Andover at 4:00 p.m.
