If Maize was riding high fresh off their 9-1 takedown of Valley Center on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Maize fell just short of Valley Center by a score of 2-1 on Monday. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 9-1.

Gavin Short was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024.
