Softball Game Preview: Oneida Express vs. Rome Free Academy Black Knights

Oneida is 9-1 against Rome Free Academy since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Express will head out on the road to face off against the Black Knights at 4:30 p.m.

Oneida fell victim to Chittenango and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They lost 7-0 to the Bears. Having soared to a lofty 28 runs in the game before, the Express' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Rome Free Academy came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Warriors.

Emelia Szymanski looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Haylee Bostwick was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Barbara Ciotti also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Rome Free Academy pushed their record up to 5-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Oneida, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Oneida suffered a grim 15-6 defeat to Rome Free Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Express avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
