After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Monticello, Goochland was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Charlottesville Black Knights as they made off with a 19-2 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Newman was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
In other batting news, Goochland got a massive performance out of Kyndall Shapiro, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Shapiro has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryleigh Shapiro, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Goochland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Goochland's record is now 8-6. As for Charlottesville, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-12.
Looking ahead, Goochland will be playing in front of their home fans against Albemarle at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Charlottesville, they will take on Monticello at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Black Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
