Chesapeake is 0-8-1 against Portsmouth since April of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Panthers will venture away from home to square off against the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. Chesapeake has given up an average of 10.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Fairview hit Chesapeake with a six-run sixth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 13-12. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Peyton Muncy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Elijah Duvendeck was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth entered their tilt with Rock Hill on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Redmen with a sharp 12-2 victory.
Trevin Brooks made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Portsmouth let Jacob Roth and Colin Perry run wild. Roth went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Perry went 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Roth has become a key player for Portsmouth: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Camron Williams, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Portsmouth's record is now 6-4. As for Chesapeake, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9-1.
Chesapeake might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Portsmouth in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
