Softball Game Preview: Raritan Rockets vs. Holmdel Hornets

The Raritan Rockets will take on the Holmdel Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Raritan sitting on three straight victories and Holmdel on four.

On Monday, Raritan earned a 7-2 win over Monmouth Regional.

Katelyn Ruta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last eight games.

In other batting news, Madison Regiec was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Holly Bellofatto, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Meanwhile, Holmdel made easy work of Freehold Boro on Tuesday and carried off a 12-2 victory. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Raritan pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Holmdel, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Raritan beat Holmdel 5-0 in their previous matchup last Monday. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
