Softball Game Preview: Strom Thurmond Rebels vs. North Augusta Yellow Jackets

The Strom Thurmond Rebels will head out on the road to square off against the North Augusta Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Strom Thurmond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Strom Thurmond's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Ninety Six 1-0.

Not much got past Emmy Mckie, who gave up just five hits to keep Ninety Six off the board. Mckie has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Strom Thurmond's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Madison Rodrigues, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

North Augusta came out on top against Lexington on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Yellow Jackets skirted past the Wildcats 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Yellow Jackets have posted since March 8th.

Eleanor Brummond spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

Strom Thurmond has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Augusta, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-9.

Both Strom Thurmond and North Augusta just can't seem to miss. The Rebels have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. However, it's not like North Augusta struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Strom Thurmond came out on top in a nail-biter against North Augusta in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 9-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
