Basketball Game Preview: Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks vs. Golden Plains Bulldogs

The Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks will square off against the Golden Plains Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Last Friday, everything came up roses for Wheatland-Grinnell against Triplains/Brewster as the squad secured a 64-19 win. The Thunderhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matchups by 27 points or more this season.

Wheatland-Grinnell found their leader in sophomore Aliviah Ball, who almost dropped a triple-double with 23 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ball has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Thomas, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.

Wheatland-Grinnell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Golden Plains, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 52-8 victory over Chase. The game marked the Bulldogs' most dominant win of the season.

Golden Plains' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.0 points over those games. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Wheatland-Grinnell strolled past Golden Plains when the teams last played on February 7th by a score of 39-24. Does Wheatland-Grinnell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Golden Plains turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
