Baseball Game Preview: South Kingstown Rebels vs. Coventry Oakers

The South Kingstown Rebels will head out to take on the Coventry Oakers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Kingstown's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Coventry's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

South Kingstown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Westerly, who was ranked seventh at the time (South Kingstown was ranked third). The Rebels put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 11-1 victory on Monday. The Rebels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Coventry, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over North Kingstown on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Oakers have posted against the Skippers since June 2, 2021.

Coventry got a great performance from Gabriel Lopez as he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Lopez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

South Kingstown has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Coventry, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11.

South Kingstown came out on top in a nail-biter against Coventry in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Rebels repeat their success, or do the Oakers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
