League recap: Louisburg climbs in standings with win

Louisburg was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from third to first in 1A Conference 8. Earlier in the week, the Warriors defeated KIPP Pride 44-14.

Weldon took down Northwest Halifax 58-16 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Granville Central's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jay Parker threw for 187 and 1 touchdown and Dylan Beckwith had 112 yards receiving. On the ground Corey Evams contributed 159 yards. Bryce Parrott helped Granville Central's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 60 yards.

Evams was a passing and rushing force as the Panthers defeated Southeast Halifax. Evams' key target this week was Beckwith, who caught 4 passes for 112 yards.

Evams was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 159 yards on 22 carries as Granville Central bested the Trojans. Teammate Parrott added to the ground attack by rushing for 110 yards.

John Hammett's team's Parker and Beckwith have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Parker has thrown for 1,505 yards this season, while Beckwith has 27 catches for 508 yards. ANTONIO SMITH from Louisburg leads the league in rushing with 724 yards.

The top two teams in 1A Conference 8 will face off this week when first place Louisburg takes on second place Granville Central. Last week, chris lee's team defeated the Panthers, while the Panthers beat Southeast Halifax.

Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Granville Central's Beckwith goes up against the Warriors' JOSEPH HINTON.

Next week's game between the Panthers and Louisburg will feature a good passing match up as Parker will test his arm against HINTON's defensive ability.

There should be lots of points scored when the Warriors and Granville Central face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Louisburg comes in having scored 311 this season, while the Panthers have scored 330. The Warriors scored 44 points last week as they beat KIPP Pride.

Granville Central made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,254 from 10,933. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 48-12 victory over Larry Edwards' team last week.
