Preview: Stayton Eagles vs. Cascade Cougars
Stayton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Cascade Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Stayton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
Stayton suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They suffered a tough 57-36 defeat at the hands of North Marion. While losing is never fun, Stayton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while North Marion is ranked 29th).
Stayton's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kaden Holm, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ean Dillingham, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cascade entered their tilt with Astoria with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Cascade blew past Astoria 71-46. Cascade has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 24 points or more this season.
Stayton's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Cascade, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-2.
Things could have been worse for Stayton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 66-52 loss to Cascade in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Stayton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
