Basketball Recap: Millard West Takes a Loss

Millard West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 69-50 to the Bellevue West Thunderbirds. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 14th).

When it comes to explaining why Millard West lost, don't look at Reece Carson. Despite the final result, he shot 4-for-7 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Carson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Cade Walker was another key player, putting up seven points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bellevue West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carsen Schultz, who shot 62% from the field on his way to 23 points. What's more, Schultz also posted a 63% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryce Johnson Jr, who posted 12 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Millard West's defeat dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Bellevue West, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
