Recap: First Baptist vs. South Texas Christian Academy Panthers
First Baptist's's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were outmatched by South Texas Christian Academy at home and fell 69-39. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for First Baptist in their matchups with South Texas Christian Academy: they've now lost five in a row.
It was another big night for Gabriel Armenta, who dropped a triple-double on 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists for South Texas Christian Academy. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Zumaya, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
First Baptist's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-1. As for South Texas Christian Academy, their win bumped their record up to 4-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. First Baptist will face off against Presbyterian Pan American at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Texas Christian Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Harvest Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Harvest Christian is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
