Football Recap: Broughton Branch Key Part of Team Effort in Cougars Win

Brookstone's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Calvary Christian Knights by a score of 25-12. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Brookstone's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Broughton Branch, who threw for 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and also rushed for 39 yards and one score. The Cougars' leading receiver Sammie Laboy was Branch's top target yet again, picking up 58 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Brookstone proved: they limited Calvary Christian to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Harrison Baker for the heroic effort on defense: he. Brookstone didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.9.

Brookstone's defense didn't let Braxton Wilkinson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Savon Kelly was especially locked on to Calvary Christian's QB and sacked him 2.5 times.

Although Calvary Christian took the loss, they still got scores from Jamar Williams and Nate Stokes.

Brookstone's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Calvary Christian, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Coincidentally, Brookstone and Calvary Christian will both be playing St. Anne-Pacelli the next time they take the field. The Knights will head out to face the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Cougars will host them at 7:30 p.m. on the 10th.
