Volleyball Recap: Appleton East Takes a Loss

Appleton East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Port Washington Pirates. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2016.

Appleton East was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-17.

Their offense was headlined by Tesha Schlaak and Adina DePagter, who picked up three kills apiece. They got some help from Addison Kiekhaefer and her seven assists. DePagter and Kiekhaefer didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with two apiece.

Port Washington's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emersyn Loose, who had 15 digs. The team also got some help courtesy of Summer Wille, who had ten digs and two aces.

Appleton East's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Port Washington, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Appleton East has already played their next match, a 2-0 defeat against DeForest on the 13th. As for Port Washington, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Barneveld on the 13th.
