The Hammond Morton Governors will face off against the Hammond Central Wolves at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hammond Morton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Hammond Morton took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They never let Gary West Side get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. Considering the Governors have won eight contests by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Alex Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Gerard Garnett was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Michael Stevens, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Hammond Morton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Hammond Central posted their closest win since April 10th on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Hammond Baptist.
The team relied heavily on Christopher Buckley, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Hammond Central is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-15-1 otherwise. Jansel Savinon was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run.
Hammond Central's win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-15-1. As for Hammond Morton, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hammond Morton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hammond Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hammond Morton took their win against Hammond Central when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-3 score. Will the Governors repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
