Softball Game Preview: Maplewood Panthers vs. Hume-Fogg Blue Knights

Maplewood is 0-10 against Hume-Fogg since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. Maplewood will head out on the road to challenge Hume-Fogg at 4:30 p.m.

Maplewood is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Lawson, falling 22-0.

Hume-Fogg never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Glencliff last Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Colts a 31-0 shutout. Considering the Blue Knights' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Aaliyah Wood made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wood was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jayla Liddell was a standout: she fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-4. Zyla Haynie was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3.

Maplewood's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hume-Fogg, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Maplewood couldn't quite get it done against Hume-Fogg in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 as they fell 6-3. Can Maplewood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
