Mark Morris' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Hudson's Bay 21-0. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won 12 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Makenzie Henthorn and Shyanne Sellers were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Henthorn pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sellers struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Henthorn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Henthorn got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sellers went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Henthorn also snagged a stolen base, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Megan Fugleberg was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mikaila Warfield, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI.
Meanwhile, Washougal hadn't done well against Hockinson recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Panthers put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 15-5 victory. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly ten runs.
Mark Morris' win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Washougal, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-12.
Mark Morris took their victory against Washougal in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Monarchs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
