Softball Game Preview: Breathitt County Bobcats vs. Estill County Engineers

For the second straight game, Breathitt County will face off against Estill County. The Bobcats will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Engineers at 6:00 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Breathitt County has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Estill County will arrive with four straight wins.

Breathitt County lost 12-2 to Estill County on Wednesday.

For Estill County's part, Bella Rice made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Rice has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Spencer Young and Callee Snowden did most of the damage at the plate: Young went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Snowden went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that Young hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kadara Skinner, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Estill County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Breathitt County only posted a batting average of .190.

Estill County pushed their record up to 7-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Breathitt County, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
