Preview: Greeley West Spartans vs. Holy Family Tigers
The Greeley West Spartans will be playing at home against the Holy Family Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Greeley West has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team is hunting for their first win since January 8.
Greeley West struggled with assists on Friday (Longmont had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Greeley West suffered a rough 57-35 defeat at the hands of Longmont. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greeley West in their matchups with Longmont: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Greeley West saw an underclassman step up: Zaiden Montelongo scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Montelongo pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Karter Nickell, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Greeley West's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as Nickell got a bit more time on the court (19 vs. his season average of 6.64). Nickell made the most of the opportunity, scoring four points along with five rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Meanwhile, Holy Family came up short against Mead on Friday and fell 55-45. Holy Family has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Greeley West's defeat was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Holy Family, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Greeley West came up short against Holy Family in their previous meeting back in January, falling 76-63. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Holy Family's Joseph Portillo jr, who scored 24 points along with five assists and three steals.
