League recap: North Haven propelled into state Top 25 after victory

North Haven was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating North Haven 49-12. The Indians came in at 16 in the state poll after placing at number 32 last week.

East Haven moved up to 109 from 137 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southern Connecticut Division II - East. The Yellowjackets were able to make the jump by beating the Yellowjackets 47-0.

Sheehan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jeremy Gannon threw for 115 and one touchdown and Brendan Gauthier had 86 yards receiving. On the ground Dave LaPlante chipped in 37 yards. Rafael Dominguez helped Sheehan's passing attack out by catching three balls for 59 yards.

5-foot-9 quarterback Jake Kasuba of Foran is the league leader in passing yards this season with 287. He has also thrown three touchdowns. On the ground, the Titans' Gannon has rushed for 272 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Gauthier. The Sheehan star has 10 catches for 155 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when North Haven takes on East Haven. Anthony Sagnella's team is currently in second, while Greg Volpe's team is in third.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Indians take on the Yellowjackets. North Haven has allowed 49 points this season, while East Haven has given up 74. The Indians allowed 49 points last week as they fell to Xavier.

There should be lots of points scored when Sheehan and the Lions face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, John Ferrazzi's team comes in having scored 59 this season, while Foran has scored 34. The Titans scored 14 points last week as they lost to Amity Regional.

The Yellowjackets made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,319 from 12,415. The improvement came about via a 47-0 victory over East Haven last week.
