Baseball Game Preview: Orange Beach Makos vs. Pelham Panthers

The Orange Beach Makos will venture away from home to square off against the Pelham Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Orange Beach is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

If Orange Beach beats Pelham with five runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Orange Beach beat Priceville on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 5-2.

Orange Beach got a great performance from Matthew Hoover as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Cooper Sanders and Eric Rogers did most of the damage at the plate: Sanders scored a run while going 4-for-4, while Rogers scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Rogers also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Joel Chandler, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Pelham has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.71 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They came up short against Briarwood Christian, falling 14-4. The Panthers have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Orange Beach's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Pelham, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.
