Baseball Recap: Smithton Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Smithton came into Thursday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 10-6 win over Green Ridge on Thursday. Considering Smithton's hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Sam Bray made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Smithton: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-13 otherwise.

In other batting news, Kaden Asbury was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Cole Bass was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Smithton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .514. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Smithton's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Green Ridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

As of now, neither Smithton nor Green Ridge have any future games scheduled.
