Baseball Recap: York Takes a Loss

York fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Downers Grove North on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 10-8. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Trojans this season, with their most recent defeat being a 3-2 loss on Thursday.

Danny Raible was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Josh Fleming and Austin Grzywa stepped up to the plate in a big way. Fleming got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Grzywa went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Luke Pieczynski, who went 1-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

York has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 20-11 record this season. As for Downers Grove North, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 26-7.

Looking ahead, York will face off against Prospect at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Dukes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Downers Grove North, they will square off against Oak Lawn at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
