Football Recap: Meridian Skates Past Hutsonville/Palestine with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pawnee/Lincolnwood, Meridian was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They claimed a resounding 60-16 victory over the Hutsonville/Palestine Tigers. The Hawks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meridian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Brown, who threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 69 yards and one TD. Those 69 rushing yards gave Brown a new career-high. Seth Ralston was another key player, gaining 139 total yards and three touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Meridian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meridian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Ethan Long led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Brown got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meridian's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Hutsonville/Palestine, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Coming up, Meridian will challenge Metro-East Lutheran at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Knights have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Hutsonville/Palestine, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Martinsville at 7:00 p.m. on October 4.
