Softball Recap: Cape Fear Christian Academy Starts off Right with Win over Faith Christian

Cape Fear Christian Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Faith Christian Patriots with a sharp 17-0 win. The Eagles have beaten the Patriots the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Patriots has come to flipping the script.

Glenna Mclamb made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mclamb was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Larah Tripp and Kristina Kennedy did most of the damage at the plate: Tripp went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Kennedy scored three runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Kennedy a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Hailey Dupree, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Cape Fear Christian Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Faith Christian fell to 2-1.

Coming up, Cape Fear Christian Academy will face off against Wilson Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Faith Christian, they will welcome Freedom Christian Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
