Baseball Game Preview: Seaholm Maples vs. Ferndale Eagles

For the second straight game, Seaholm will face off against Ferndale. The Maples will take on the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Seaholm has three straight victories, Ferndale has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, Seaholm made easy work of Ferndale and carried off a 15-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Maples, who have now won three contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Patrick Hughes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hughes was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-5. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, Seaholm got a massive performance out of Cobie Early, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Early also put up two doubles, which were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nick Davis, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Seaholm always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ferndale only posted an OBP of .222.

Seaholm's victory was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ferndale, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Seaholm has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Ferndale struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
