It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but St. Joseph Notre Dame ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Saint Mary's Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Pilots have posted since May 7, 2024.

Cassandra Sanchez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ella Schwartz was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lexi Roben, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

St. Joseph Notre Dame hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive matches.

St. Joseph Notre Dame pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Saint Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
