It's playoff time, and Foothill had no trouble coming through when it counted. They had just enough and edged out the Pleasant Valley Vikings 2-1 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
Elisea Wiegand made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Wiegand wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Malia Webb, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Foothill's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Pleasant Valley, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-7-1.
