Softball Recap: Truckee Comes Up Short

Truckee extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 6-15 in the process. They lost 16-2 to the Sparks Railroaders. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 4, 2022, but that streak is no more.

Truckee saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gwen Burns, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Sparks, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-10. Considering they have won six matches by more than 12 runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Sparks' side, Bailey Hunden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and only one walk). Hunden has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sparks got a massive performance out of Guadalupe Vega Rivera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those four runs gave Vega Rivera a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellise Henderson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Truckee beat Sparks by a score of 19-9 later that day.
