Softball Recap: J.P. Mccaskey's Win Ends Eight-Game Losing Streak on the Road

J.P. McCaskey was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They blew past the Muhlenberg Muhls 19-7. The Red Tornado might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by ten runs or more this season.

Lleana Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, Alayah Gartman was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Sanya Mumma, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

J.P. McCaskey hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive games.

J.P. McCaskey's win ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-12. As for Muhlenberg, they dropped their record down to 6-13 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. J.P. McCaskey will welcome Hempfield at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Red Tornado's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Black Knights have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for Muhlenberg, they will square off against Schuylkill Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
