Baseball Recap: Mainland Has No Trouble Against Crescent City

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mainland). They put the hurt on the Crescent City Raiders with a sharp 11-1 win on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won three in a row.

Jordan Payne made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Helmut Waters and Trevor Pittman did most of the damage at the plate: Waters scored a run while going 2-for-2, while Pittman scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Pittman a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Ryan Allen, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Mainland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

The win got Mainland back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Mainland will take on Pine Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Crescent City, they will face off against Branford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
