Basketball Recap: Paideia Comes Up Short

The Paideia Pythons were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 68-62 to the Maryville Red Rebels. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (60), the Pythons still had to take the loss.

Leading Maryville to victory were Luke Sigmund and Jonathan Woodlee. Sigmund dropped a double-double with 24 points and 13 boards, while Woodlee went 7-for-12 en route to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Thanks to that strong game, Woodlee now owns an excellent 47.2% shooting accuracy. Eli Owensby was another key player, shooting 50% from the field on his way to 15 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Paideia and nudges their season record down to 1-5. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points over those games. As for Maryville, their victory bumped their record up to 4-0.

Paideia wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 83-71 defeat against Columbia on the 28th. As for Maryville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 67-54 win against Farragut on the 2nd.
