Softball Recap: Valley Christian Has No Trouble Against Village Christian

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Saint Joseph, Valley Christian was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Village Christian Crusaders with a sharp 13-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Defenders, who have now won 11 matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Rachel Zhang spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Valley Christian got a massive performance out of Peyton Kingery, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Kingery has posted since back in March. Brianna Ramirez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.

Valley Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Village Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-7.

Looking ahead, Valley Christian will welcome Maranatha at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Minutemen have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 19.25 runs per game on average), something the Defenders will no doubt try to take advantage of. Village Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
