Preview: Cottonwood Colts vs. Stansbury Stallions

The Cottonwood Colts will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Stansbury Stallions at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cottonwood has three straight victories, Stansbury has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Cottonwood put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Hillcrest on the road to the tune of 66-14. With that win, Cottonwood brought their scoring average up to 50.4 points per game.

It was another big night for Avea Van der beek, who scored 16 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carley Caton, who scored 14 points.

Stansbury suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 last Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 59-37 walloping at the hands of Murray. Stansbury found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post 12 fewer assists than your opponent.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Bryn leigh Jones, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Brooke Jensen, who scored 14 points.

Cottonwood is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Stansbury, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Cottonwood hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 50.4 points per game. It's a different story for Stansbury, though, as they've been averaging only 27.8 points per game. The only thing between Cottonwood and another offensive beatdown is Stansbury. Will they be able to keep them contained?

Everything went Cottonwood's way against Stansbury when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as Cottonwood made off with a 69-49 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Stansbury's Tailor Palmer, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds. Now that she won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Cottonwood to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
