Recap: Hernando Leopards vs. Lecanto Panthers
After a string of three wins, the Hernando Leopards's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They suffered a rough 65-41 loss at the hands of Lecanto. Hernando has struggled against Lecanto recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Kayla Holloman and Aislin Ruppe certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Holloman scored 15 points, while Ruppe scored 13 points. That was a full 36.6% of Hernando's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Lecanto was led to victory by Ijyana Edwards and Bryleigh Florio. Edwards scored 15 points along with nine assists and six steals, while Florio scored 27 points along with seven steals. Florio is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Xena Bellamy was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds and four steals.
Hernando's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Lecanto, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-4.
Hernando will be playing at home against Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Lecanto won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Nature Coast Tech at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th. Nature Coast Tech is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
