Football Game Preview: Augusta vs. Winfield

On Friday Augusta take on Winfield at 7:00 PM. It might come down to the wire as the MaxPreps rankings project a close contest.

We expected Augusta to have trouble with the significantly higher ranked Wellington last Friday, and they did. Augusta found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 14-35 punch to the gut against Wellington. Augusta's defeat came about despite a quality game from sophomore Ryan Andrews, who rushed for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Meanwhile, if Winfield were riding high off their 21-0 takedown of Circle two weeks ago, that ride came to an abrupt end. Winfield didn't finish too far behind, but the team still lost 20-26 to Labette County. Winfield were down by 6-26 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Everything went Augusta's way against Winfield the last time the two teams met as they made off with a 39-13 victory. Will Augusta repeat their success, or does Winfield have a better game plan this time around ? We'll find out soon enough.
