Softball Recap: North Daviess' Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

North Daviess dropped their record down to 19-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 3-0 to the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 5-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2017.

As for Evansville Mater Dei, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-8. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

For Evansville Mater Dei's part, Chelsea Merkley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over seven innings pitched. Merkley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted over her last ten matches.

In other batting news, Grace Folz was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

North Daviess and Evansville Mater Dei are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cougars will square off against Loogootee at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.33 runs per game on average), something North Daviess will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Evansville Mater Dei, they will take on Tecumseh at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
