Preview: Durant Cougars vs. Riverview Sharks
The Durant Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Riverview Sharks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
After a string of four wins, Durant's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a hard 35-21 fall against Gaither.
Durant's defeat came about despite a quality game from Emmanuel Lee, who rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Smith made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, after only seven points in their last game, Riverview made sure to put some points up on the board against Strawberry Crest on Friday. Riverview enjoyed a cozy 35-17 win over Strawberry Crest. Riverview pushed the score to 35-10 by the end of the third, a deficit Strawberry Crest cut but never quite recovered from.
Gaither's win bumped their season record to 3-5 while Durant's loss dropped theirs to 7-2.
Durant didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Riverview in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, but they still walked away with a 30-26 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Riverview's Harrison Hensley, who rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.3 yards per carry.
