Valparaiso came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 72-63 victory over the McCutcheon Mavericks. The win was all the more spectacular given the Vikings' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Mavericks are ranked eighth).

Valparaiso got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lillian Barnes out in front who went 8 of 15 on her way to 23 points along with eight assists and five boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chyanne Brown, who posted 15 points.

Valparaiso is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for McCutcheon, with the loss, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.

When Valparaiso and McCutcheon next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Valparaiso will try to stop Chesterton's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Valparaiso is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.7 points per game this season. Similarly, McCutcheon will take on Lafayette Jefferson and their six-game winning streak at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
