Lee's Summit West waltzed into their contest on Thursday with 13 straight wins... but they left with 14. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Liberty North Eagles. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since October 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Lee's Summit West had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16.

Tori Massengill paced Lee's Summit West's offense, picking up 15 kills. Massengill got some help from Jaelyn Jordan and her 41 assists. Andi Gardner controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Despite the loss, Liberty North still got an impressive performance from Olivia Derenzy, who had 14 digs and two aces. Derenzy has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Lee's Summit West's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Liberty North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.

Lee's Summit West will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Blue Springs South at 5:00 p.m. As for Liberty North, they will head out on the road to face off against Raymore-Peculiar at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
