Softball Recap: Goshen RedHawks vs. Wawasee Warriors
Goshen had lost nine straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped down to 3-17 to make it ten. They came up short against the Wawasee Warriors, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 on May 1st.
As for Wawasee, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
For Wawasee's part, the result came thanks to Kirra Alvarez's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. Alvarez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on MariJo Bontrager, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Elise Berkeypile, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
