Haxtun and Sedgwick County are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2016, but not for long. The Fightin' Bulldogs will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. Haxtun's defense has only allowed 8.8 points per game this season, so Sedgwick County's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Haxtun is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Plateau Valley 44-0. Considering the Fightin' Bulldogs have won nine games by more than 23 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Haxtun's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zach Statz, who rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. Statz's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 121 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Colin Cone, who rushed for 86 yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Haxtun was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 190 rushing yards in nine consecutive matchups.
Haxtun didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Gabriel Becerra, Corbin Andersen, and Statz picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Sedgwick County faced Clear Creek in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars enjoyed a cozy 38-20 victory over the Golddiggers. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their eight-point performance the contest before.
Haxtun better keep an eye on Owen Harris. He was instrumental in Sedgwick County's win, rushing for 226 yards and four scores while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Harris a new career-high.
Haxtun's record is now 9-1. As for Sedgwick County, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Saturday's game will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Statz and Harris. Statz just won't slow down this season and has run in 16 touchdowns while averaging 117.8 rushing yards per game. Harris has been a dominant force too and has run in 16 touchdowns while averaging 177.9 rushing yards per game.
Everything came up roses for Haxtun against Sedgwick County when the teams last played two weeks ago, as the squad secured a 52-8 win. In that matchup, the Fightin' Bulldogs amassed a halftime lead of 46-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
