Soccer Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Wakefield's Winning Streak

Wakefield fought the good fight in their overtime match against Wake Forest on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 3-2. While losing is never fun, Wakefield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Wake Forest are ranked ninth).

Kayli Barlett wasn't going to let Wake Forest walk away unscathed as she scored both of Wakefield's goals, bringing her season total up to 12 goals.

Wakefield moved to 4-4-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Wake Forest, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-1-1.

Wakefield and Wake Forest will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Wolverines see the pitch they'll take on Heritage at 6:15 p.m. on the 9th. As for Wake Forest, their break will end when they face Rolesville at 5:00 p.m. on the 9th.
