Baseball Recap: Buena Comes Up Short

Buena dropped their record down to 8-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Cedar Creek Pirates, falling 20-10. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chiefs of the 11-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Richie Wilson and Donato Vai did some serious damage despite the final result: Wilson got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI, while Vai got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Wilson has become a key player for Buena: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ben Cohen, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

As for Cedar Creek, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Cedar Creek's side, JJ Watkins was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs Watkins has posted since back in March. Nolan Scholder was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

While Buena had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
