Baseball Game Preview: Westfield Blue Devils vs. Millburn Millers

The Westfield Blue Devils will venture away from home to face off against the Millburn Millers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Thursday, Westfield didn't have quite enough to beat Scotch Plains-Fanwood and fell 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost four in a row.

Westfield got a good showing from Ian Dickey, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Dickey has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Westfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Lawrence, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Andrew Digregorio also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Millburn didn't have quite enough to beat Columbia on Wednesday and fell 4-3.

Millburn's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Westfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Westfield beat Millburn 10-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Millers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
