Softball Recap: Bluffton Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Bluffton's offense. They fell just short of the Garrett Railroaders by a score of 2-0 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Tigers have suffered since April 16, 2024.

Madyson Sonnigsen was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Sonnigsen was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Sonnigsen wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jillian Phillippe, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Bluffton's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Garrett, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Bluffton will face off against Southwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 12 runs per game this season. As for Garrett, they will square off against West Noble at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Railroaders are facing the Chargers at the right time seeing as the Chargers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
